Battle Hymns of a Hot Mess Mom

One day at a time…

  • Biopsy

In so much pain at the moment. Holy crap! When B says you’re going to be some pain she wasn’t joking. I can barely bend at the waist as it feels like a truck and I got into a 1:1 battle that I ultimately lost. I’m a wreck today, I just can’t figure things out Continue reading

  • Long Week

S’s party was okay, apparently you only get the party room AFTER the jumping has commenced, so parents just hang out aimlessly until the children have finished jumping and they get water from a cooler like a hobo. It wasn’t exactly what I had imagined at all. It’s a one and done. We didn’t use Continue reading

  • Cycle

Last few days have been about living life and doing more. Since my birthday I have been trying to push myself to do more, walk more, participate more, be more present and be more grateful. My anxiety has gotten into some fun heights…everything in my house has been cleaned or laundered. I have put away Continue reading

  • Laughter

30 minutes left to my birthday – what an amazing day! I got up this morning and made breakfast for both children. A savory oatmeal and a sweet oatmeal, I listen to the children bickering this morning about socks, and who touched each other’s shoes. It was an amazing day because I got to rock Continue reading

  • Adventure

What an adventure we got to go on. The ebike rental company did ultimately have one for rent. I was super excited. The weather was going to be awful on Friday so I planned for a trip to the Winchester Mystery House. I went there with A maybe 10 years ago when he visited and Continue reading

  • The Dangle

J has done this to me most of our marriage which is to dangle some event, idea, outing and once I’m excited for it or excited to try it. He shoots it down and we’re not going. I f*cking hate that sh*t. I don’t normally air the dirty laundry but I’m f*cking pissed. We are Continue reading

  • Flashback

I found this in the boxes that I needed to organize – my 20+ year old Rolodex. Gen Alpha does not know what this is, my children looked at it and stared blankly at it. I started to explain what it was and how I would used it…and I think their eyes rolled to the Continue reading

  • Easter

We made good time on Good Friday and were there by 6:30pm even through heavy traffic. Saturday dinner was delicious! I haven’t had sushi since I got sick. This was a wonderful treat, while I didn’t have “sushi” as my rolls were all cooked. It was still wonderful to be a part of the celebration. Continue reading

  • Crazy

It’s 3:43am and I am wide awake. Completely and utterly awake. It’s going to be a long day tomorrow. The drive wasn’t as bad as we thought for Good Friday, we all played Pokémon when we got into traffic and hatched a few eggs and made the traffic in to a positive. That’s been the Continue reading

  • Conference

I’ve been attending this yearly conference since 2013, missed the Covid year and of course last year, and I’m missing it again now. The “sisterhood” is a group of us professionals (which includes two gentlemen for Europe D and A – we are inclusive of all!) from different industries but all with similar compliance backgrounds Continue reading

About Me

Hello, my name is Nina. I am a mother, wife, daughter and friend. I am lover of country music, & 80’s love ballad. I love me some karaoke! I identify as hot mess mom. I get it wrong, all the time. On the rare occasions I get it right? Even I’m shocked.

I am a working professional in the field of Compliance. I am mother two, daughter to immigrant parents, wife to a “redneck” – and proud of it, sister-in-law to the two most incredible human beings I have ever met and a niece that is just so cool but doesn’t know it.

I work too hard and play too little. I’ve always focus on the wrong thing and never quite sure if I’m ever enough. I grew up on the East Coast and was a latchkey kid in the 80’s and 90’s – I dodged the sketchy people on the walk home and tried not to end up on a milk carton.

I went to a very privileged Boarding School on the East Coast and college after that. (So yeah that’s exactly why this journal will be riddled with grammatical and spelling errors. On the days I feel good, I’ll type it out. On the days I don’t feel good it’ll be voice to text. I can not be held liable for the things Siri puts in as my “voice”. ) Graduated on a Friday and started Fleet Bank on a Saturday. I hustled my way through the midnight shift at DHL and hustled and hustled and hustled. I knew nothing except the hustle. (As I said, I’m a hot mess mom).
