Battle Hymns of a Hot Mess Mom

One day at a time…

Easter

We made good time on Good Friday and were there by 6:30pm even through heavy traffic. Saturday dinner was delicious! I haven’t had sushi since I got sick. This was a wonderful treat, while I didn’t have “sushi” as my rolls were all cooked. It was still wonderful to be a part of the celebration.

Kids slept over at their aunt’s house and I think none of the children actually slept but I’m sure they had fun. A and I got to spend some quiet time together. There’s something peaceful about coming home to family. There’s nothing quite like that feeling. It centers me and gives me the ability to exhale.

I got to sleep pretty well the night before and actually got 5 hours. We headed to Easter Dinner around 2:30pm; the kids were already there…actually the whole family was already there. We stopped by a friends’ place to drop off Strawberry Pizza that A made. What is Strawberry Pizza? Sugar cookie crust, cream cheese spread and fresh strawberries.

It was way too good. I couldn’t have too much but it was delicious! We had prime rib, homemade scalloped potatoes, salad and incredible spaghetti with a side of garlic bread. I have already gain like 10 pounds in the last two days of good eating. Of course being the aunt A is…after preparing all morning for Easter Dessert…made Taylor Swift Shoes for S. She just figured it out and created magic.

Three days just isn’t enough. Hopefully we’ll see them around my birthday. I am so grateful to not spend my birthday in the hospital getting chemo. I’m starting to feel the pull of the sleeping pills. Hopefully I can sleep tonight since we have a big day tomorrow of cleaning and resetting for our Spring Break. S’s birthday party is all set; rather quickly which caught me by surprise. She loved the trampoline park so much when she went to her friends’ birthday party and wanted it for herself. Theme: Taylor Swift. A has a Cricut and is an absolute master at it. I asked her to make me some T-Shirts and Hoodies for S’s birthday gifts. Feeling the pull finally at 2:45am

About Me

Hello, my name is Nina. I am a mother, wife, daughter and friend. I am lover of country music, & 80’s love ballad. I love me some karaoke! I identify as hot mess mom. I get it wrong, all the time. On the rare occasions I get it right? Even I’m shocked.

I am a working professional in the field of Compliance. I am mother two, daughter to immigrant parents, wife to a “redneck” – and proud of it, sister-in-law to the two most incredible human beings I have ever met and a niece that is just so cool but doesn’t know it.

I work too hard and play too little. I’ve always focus on the wrong thing and never quite sure if I’m ever enough. I grew up on the East Coast and was a latchkey kid in the 80’s and 90’s – I dodged the sketchy people on the walk home and tried not to end up on a milk carton.

I went to a very privileged Boarding School on the East Coast and college after that. (So yeah that’s exactly why this journal will be riddled with grammatical and spelling errors. On the days I feel good, I’ll type it out. On the days I don’t feel good it’ll be voice to text. I can not be held liable for the things Siri puts in as my “voice”. ) Graduated on a Friday and started Fleet Bank on a Saturday. I hustled my way through the midnight shift at DHL and hustled and hustled and hustled. I knew nothing except the hustle. (As I said, I’m a hot mess mom).
