After chemo early yesterday J and I had a quick lunch together at a Mexican restaurant. I had to stop on the middle of eating as a wave of nausea hit me. I love to ruin lunches that we rarely have alone. Once we got home I changed into more comfortable clothing and laid in bed. I never came downstairs afterwards. The only time I did was to throw up. I was the epitome of potato.
Today wasn’t much different except that the site of my picc is bleeding a little and is causing a lot of constant discomfort. It burns and pinches from where the picc is inserted into my arm to the inner armpit. It is still swollen 5 days post insertion. The nurse that changed my dressing instructed that I inform Dr P if there was pain after a few days. I have 2 days left of infusion and another dressing change on Wednesday. I didn’t have any of these symptoms with my last picc so I am concerned that there may be something wrong with this one. Dr P is currently on rounds so his NP told me that I need to see a clinician – but I can schedule an appointment without an order. The NP told the Triage Nurse that he can’t put an order in a different location. I am getting the back and forth run around I feel. And I’m tired.

I got a call back they have an clinic that is similar to that of an urgent care – as long as it’s not something major they can take a look at it. I have an appointment scheduled for 5:30pm right when I get done with chemo.
My app just confirmed that my appointment is at 3:00pm. Sigh why is this so hard? I feel like a literal dumpster fire but I have to call back and forth and back and forth. I literally don’t have this in me and scraping fumes out of an empty barrel. So I’m back no the phone to explain that the scheduling was incorrect it should be 5:30pm not 3:00pm. I have chemo that starts at 3:00pm and I have not yet figured out how to be in two places at one time. And hour later…the original scheduler called and said she couldn’t put it in the system as 5:30pm so had to put it in as 3:00pm. Maybe you could have told me that?
Infusion nurses aren’t thrilled with the insertion site and that it looks infected and swollen so they want it to be checked out by the clinician.
Ultrasound ordered for tomorrow. Potential blood clot but because it’s in the upper extremity it’s unlikely to go to my lungs. Apparently the ones on the lower extremities tend to flow to the lungs. The more you know….
